IV Sedation and Wisdom Teeth

Dr. Ilustre provides IV sedation for patients who just cannot tolerate having dental work. His training and the latest in sedation drugs provide a safe and easy way to have your dental work completed. If you are postponing your needed dental work because of fear please come in and talk to Dr. Ilustre about IV sedation. It may be just what you need.

In addition to IV sedation Dr. Ilustre offers the removal of wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to develop and are also called third molars. They typically develop during late teens and early twenties. During development, many times wisdom teeth become impacted and cyst formation develops around them. These cysts can be quite large displacing the tooth and destroying the jaw bone. When there is not enough room for these teeth to completely come in they cause several problems:

• Painful infections that can spread into the face

   and throat

• Decay on the back root of the second molars

• Gum disease that spreads to the other teeth

The best treatment for wisdom teeth is to remove them to prevent future dental problems. It is often better to remove wisdom teeth early, while their roots are still small, even before the teeth have come in through the gums. This allows for easier removal, fewer complications, and faster healing.
